Today is my dad's birthday. My dad is the greatest! Handsome, strong, sweet, funny and best of all, there for me. I have been a daddys girl since day one, getting older (much) has not changed things one bit. I have a zillion great memories from my childhood that include him, way too many to list. When I was around 8 or so he took me out to dinner, just the two of us. I got all dressed up. He was looking so handsome, sharp suit, fancy cologne. I remember sneaking looks around the restaurant all through the meal wondering if the other diners thought I was his wife. What a hoot! Being the kind soul he is he didn't laugh when I shared my thoughts with him on the ride home. When I was in my sports/equality phase he convinced me I could throw a softball as well as any boy. I was in a panic that I would not pass the Presidents Physical Fitness test (remember those?), that was grade school. He practiced for hours with me. I passed (barely) YES!!! All that work and all I got was a dumb patch, at the time it was the patch of the gods. When I was a bit older, one of his lessons was the "in your face" hand shake. He would often say, "I don't care who you meet, young or old, man or woman always, always look them straight in the eye and be the first one to put your hand out to shake. They will never forget you." Dad was always there to pick me up and dust me off when I fell and wiped my tears when I cried. Heck, he still does! I think one of the things I am most grateful for is that he loved me even through the nasty teen years when common sense would have dictated that I be sold off to the gypsies. I love ya dad, you're the best!!!!! Happy Birthday to yoouuuu.......!
